The Greg Welch Story

Greg Welch, the pint-sized Aussie larrikin they call Plucky, became world champion in five sports: surf, duathlon, Olympic-distance triathlon, long-course triathlon and Ironman.

But, with the 2000 Sydney Olympics in sight he was suddenly forced to quit his sport and fight for his life.

Patrick tells Greg’s story, from cheeky paperboy to the heights of success and the depths of darkness that followed the diagnosis of a near-fatal heart condition (probably a side-effect of his amazing fitness), through to the hard-won contentment of his life now with his beloved wife and daughters.

Recent praise

The story of his extraordinary life and near-death is compellingly told in Lindsay’s excellent narrative. It is a lesson for our times, a book for everybody and not just sports tragics.
